Producing innovative, multi-component designs in one step
AquiloTech is launching the first-ever wearable designed to cool athletes. The device is a reusable wristband that contains an Aquapod — a uniquely shaped, elastomeric component filled with cooling gel, which must be replaced after ten uses.
While the Aquapod design proposed by the product engineers was extremely innovative, it was limited by available materials and manufacturing processes.
Chromatic helped them overcome this challenge. Over the course of the product design phase, we rapidly generated new designs, ranging from fabric changes to geometry changes to part flexibility to gel composition. Ultimately, we printed an elastomeric rectangle directly onto a hook-and-loop backing that secures it to the wristband. With this design, an athlete can easily remove a used Aquapod and attach a fresh one.
