Use case

Turbine blade wheel

The turbine blade wheel is part of the generator of various steam locomotives. The original part of the turbine blade wheel consists of a number of individual turbine blades, which are inserted individually into a groove. The result: a complex (dis-) assembly when replacing worn blades. The additively manufactured part is optimised so that segments with 8 blades can be exchanged at once which facilitates the process. In addition, the spare part now has an improved blade geometry increasing the parts’ performance for improved flow and the overall availability in operation has been raised.
