How Metal 3D Printing Helped IKM Flux Improve LNG Measurement Stability

Accurate LNG measurement is crucial in the energy industry because even small errors can affect fuel pricing. Traditional vaporizers often struggle with uneven heating, which can lead to unstable readings. IKM Flux faced this challenge: their existing system could not reliably convert extremely cold LNG into a fully vaporized gas without causing measurement drift.

To overcome this, EOS worked with IKM Flux in a consortium to apply metal 3D printing and generative design to a new aluminium vaporizer. This shift from conventional designs to an optimized, additively manufactured component created smoother flow paths and better heat control. As a result, field tests showed more than a 50% reduction in measurement variability, proving how advanced AM technology can deliver consistent and accurate performance.
