Launch of the Think Tank to build the world’s first decarbonized Factory for the production of interior components for the mobility industry. On February 14th and 15th 2023 the Think Tank for the “Decarbonized Factory for Future Mobile Interior” started in Aachen. New vehicle interiors are developed on a platform concept across all sectors by using newest 3D Printing technologies: from ships to road and rail vehicles to aircraft, interiors are being rethought in a new sustainable way. In addition to the interior, the focus is as well on the factory as a building for the production of these new products. It is seen as a blueprint for further “Decarb Factories”, in which in the future not only the building will be operated more emission-free according to a standardizable guideline, but also a CO2-neutral production of further products will take place, such as medical products and food. The aim is to develop and establish the first “Decarb Factory” in North Rhine-Westphalia, Western Germany. The Mönchengladbach airfield has been selected as the location. Well-known companies such as Boeing, Siemens, BMW, Bosch, Toyota, Thales, Meyer Werft or the Aachen-based rail-company Talbot including several research institutes came together in Aachen to conceptualize the “Decarb Factory” according to a “cross-industry” approach.
The project is led by the German Emirati Institute and supported by the UAE and state government of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
