The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is Germany’s national research and technology center for aeronautics and space. In our core areas, more than 11,000 employees develop technologies for aerospace, energy, and transport, as well as for security and defense research. A broad spectrum of results and innovations benefits industry and business, public authorities and administration, as well as public stakeholders.
Through intensive knowledge exchange and targeted technology transfer, we embrace our responsibility to society. We are funded by the federal government (based on a resolution of the German Bundestag through the German Federal Government, with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as the lead ministry, and the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) and the federal states also involved).
The German Space Agency at DLR is responsible, on behalf of the federal government, for planning and implementing Germany’s space activities. Two DLR project management agencies operate as management entities for research and industrial funding.
