The Light Rider by APWorks demonstrates how additive manufacturing enables entirely new design approaches for lightweight structures. The electric motorcycle features a bionically optimized aluminum frame produced using laser-based metal 3D printing, where material is placed only where it is structurally required. This results in a total vehicle weight of just 35 kg, with the frame weighing only 6 kg — making it around 30% lighter than comparable motorcycles — while also allowing complex hollow geometries and integrated functions such as internal cable routing that cannot be achieved through conventional manufacturing methods.
